3 Mysteries About The Countdown Clocks On “About Time” That Are Keeping Us Guessing
tvN’s new drama “About Time” continues to pique viewers’ curiosity!
The drama’s protagonist, Choi Michaela (played by Lee Sung Kyung), has a supernatural ability that enables her to see the life expectancies of those around her, including her own. The life expectancies take the form of countdown clocks on people’s bodies, and Choi Michaela’s countdown clock indicates that she has only a few months left to live.
However, after Choi Michaela meets Lee Do Ha (played by Lee Sang Yoon), she realizes that the countdown to her death mysteriously pauses whenever she is around him.
Here are three unexplained mysteries about the countdown clocks that have yet to be solved:
1. How do these countdown clocks work?
At first, Choi Michaela’s countdown simply pauses in Lee Do Ha’s presence—but as their romance blossoms, Lee Do Ha turns out to have the ability to actually reverse the countdown and add time to her life expectancy.
The drama still hasn’t explained the mechanism by which Lee Do Ha is able to extend Choi Michaela’s life span. However, her life expectancy appears to increase whenever he expresses his feelings for her in some way, such as taking her hand or confessing his love.
2. Where is Lee Do Ha’s countdown clock?
Choi Michaela is usually able to locate other people’s countdown clocks without much difficulty—the clocks are typically found on people’s wrists, necks, arms, or legs. However, even after following Lee Do Ha to the swimming pool in Episode 3 to watch him from afar and figure out where his clock is hidden, Choi Michaela has had no luck finding his countdown clock.
3. Are there other people who can see the countdown clocks?
So far, the drama has only introduced us to one character—Choi Michaela—who is burdened with the unhappy ability to see other people’s life expectancies. However, viewers have wondered whether there might be others who share her ability to see the magical countdown clocks on people’s bodies—and who might know more about the clocks than she does.
The producers of “About Time” commented, “In Episode 5, Lee Do Ha and Choi Michaela, who have completely fallen prey to the trick of fate played by the life expectancy clocks, will target viewers’ hearts with their two-way romance. The secrets behind the life expectancy clocks will also be revealed one by one in the future, creating unexpected twists and surprises.”
The next episode of “About Time” will air on June 4 at 9:30 p.m. KST.
