Yubin Talks About Wonder Girls's Disbandment And Other Members' Solo Careers

Former Wonder Girls member Yubin recently made her solo debut with “Lady.”

In an interview with Ilgan Sports, Yubin looked back on her time with the girl group and said, “Over 10 years, we had a lot of good experiences. You learn a lot by sharing your ups and downs and all your feelings with your friends. That’s why we all thought we needed a new start in our lives. There were types of music we wanted to do and different roads we wanted to go down.”

Of the Wonder Girls members, Sunmi and Yeeun were the first to make their solo debuts. “The preparation time [for my solo album] was long,” Yubin admitted. “I’ve been preparing my album since before Sunmi’s recent comebacks, but now I have something to show for it. For the first 2-3 months, I felt pressured, but it went away as I prepared. I tried this and that in order to perfect what I wanted to show, and naturally the pressure to release music fast went away. The other members did really well, fortunately, so people were looking forward to me when I was finally ready. I think it’s due to them that people had any interest in me.”

Yubin also shared that she has no pressure about living up to the name of Wonder Girls. “I don’t mind people saying that I’m a former Wonder Girls member,” she said. “It was part of my life and identity in my twenties, so it makes sense that people would say that. I got a lot of good experience out of Wonder Girls, and my solo album genre, city pop, was also influenced by Wonder Girls’s retro vibe.”

“Lady” and the single album “City Woman” were released on June 5.
