5 Times You Loved And Hated Im Se Mi's Character In "About Time"

In tvN’s Monday-Tuesday drama “About Time,” Im Se Mi plays Bae Soo Bong, the confident and powerful fiancée of Lee Do Ha (Lee Sang Yoon) and the only heir to a media conglomerate. Bae Soo Bong does her best to not let Choi Michaela (Lee Sung Kyung) steal her fiance. Sometimes viewers love her for her bold persistence and at other times find it frustrating. Here are some moments you might have loved and/or hated her character:

1. “You should fix that bad habit of yours.”

In the first episode, Lee Do Ha metup with Zhang Qiang(Yu Xiaoguang), the oldest son of a family-led Chinese company, for business matters. Despite Lee Do Ha’s efforts, Zhang Qiang disrespected him. Fortunately for Lee Do Ha, Bae Soo Bong came to his rescue, demanding Zhang Qiang to play nice to her fiancé. She said, “I came here to flatter you to be nice to him. This handsome man is engaged to marry me.”

2. “This is a contract that will never be on earth.”

Bae Soo Bong is bold and confident when it comes to business matter, and she successfully completed the contract Lee Do Ha wants to sign with Zhang Qiang by making a shocking offer. Even though Lee Do Ha was taken aback, Bae Soo Bong coolly commented, “This is a contract that will never be on earth. According to the lawyer, this is like a slave contract.” Despite the risk, Bae Soo Bong created a contract that would be generously advantageous to Lee Do Ha while being somewhat disadvantageous for her own company.

3. “If needed I will give you all the prettier, nicer, and precious things to you, Choi Michaela. Just don’t shake Doha.”

When Bae Soo Bong realized there is an unsettling relationship between Choi Michaela and Lee Do Ha, she does all kinds of things for her rival from presenting her with luxurious gifts to taking off her own shoes and putting them on her. When Choi Michaela asked her why she was doing such things, Bae Soo Bong answered sincerely, “If needed I will give you all the prettier, nicer, and precious things to you, Choi Michaela. Just don’t shake Doha.” It was a moment when Bae Soo Bong, who has everything, got down on her knees for love.

4. “Pretty things; they won’t solve anything now.”

Lee Do Ha, who became certain of his feelings for Choi Michaela, told Bae Soo Bong that he loves someone else and called the wedding off. Heartbroken Bae Soo Bong responded, “Do you know? The only one who can call me Soo Bong and the only one who I can bear that from in this world is you?” Her sorrow turned into fury when she warned him, “Play with her until you’re bored and think if she’s worth throwing away the card Bae Soo Bong and everything you have.”

5. “Their first love, which they thought they couldn’t bear to live without, eventually ended in failure. Do you think that unhappy ending will change now?”

Bae Soo Bong brought Lee Do Ha’s first love Kim Joon Ah (Kim Gyu Ri) to act in his musical, complicating matters even more. Bae Soo Bong told the love story of Lee Do Ha and Kim Joon Ah to Choi Michaela in order to provoke her. Then she further disheartened Choi Michaela by telling her, “Their first love, which they thought they couldn’t bear to live without, eventually ended in failure. Do you think that unhappy ending will change now? You can’t protect him.”

The production crew stated, “As Lee Do Ha and Choi Michaela maintain their strong love despite Bae Soo Bong’s various interruptions, Bae Soo Bong, who has everything except for love, makes strenuous efforts to win his heart. You can look forward for Bae Soo Bong’s ‘crazy performance’ as she turns into a more intense character in the second half of the drama.”
