Watch: SHINee's Taemin Speaks Candidly About His Job, Happiness + Reveals Self-Made Choreography

SHINee’s Taemin talked about what makes him happy and what being a singer means to him on JTBC4’s “WHY NOT: The Dancer.”

On the June 23 episode, the cast worked hard on their final choreography videos. Taemin had difficulty deciding on a song and asked the staff for their input. The staff unanimously chose Lemaitre’s “Closer” and Taemin spent all of his time creating and perfecting the choreography.

When asked if he had a location in mind for the filming of the choreography video, Taemin brought up Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park in California where he previously shot the “Drip Drop” performance MV.

In the car on the way to the park, Taemin happily chatted with the staff. A staff member commented that they didn’t know that he was this talkative and Taemin answered that he didn’t use to be like this.

The singer told the story of how he would not come out of his room when visitors came over to his house when he was young. He expressed, “I think it was difficult for me to be with people because I was introverted,” he said. “But I think I know how to approach people now.”

Emphasizing his point, the program also showed a clip from a previous episode of Taemin speaking to NCT’s Jisung, Super Junior’s Eunhyuk, and Highlight’s Lee Gikwang. Taemin had said to them, “I thought back to when I was happy and I was so happy when I earned a sense of accomplishment from a final product that I worked on together with staff.” He continued, “I think that’s why my dream changed in that direction. I [thought] I want myself to be happy, and I should cherish and love myself more.”

Back in the car with the staff, Taemin explained, “I used to not watch TV. But now I watch TV, play games, meet up with friends, go to school, cook, exercise often, and eat delicious things. It’s ordinary and it’s fun.”

The staff then asked him what he thinks he may be doing right now if he didn’t become a singer.

After some thought, Taemin answered, “To me, that sounds like, ‘Then what else do you think you would’ve liked?’ I probably would’ve done something I like because I’m doing what I like right now.” He added, “When I’m on stage, there are moments when I get really immersed. When I’m focused like that, I show and express something, and I really like that moment.”

Once he arrived at Vasquez Rocks Natural Park, Taemin filmed a choreography video for Lemaitre’s “Closer” with the beautiful landscape in the background.

During this episode, Taemin also worked with Lee Gikwang and Eunhyuk on a stunning choreography to Gallant’s “Weight in Gold.”
