Gaon's Chief Researcher Analyzes Gaon Chart Performance In First Half Of 2018

Gaon Chart released an analysis of chart performances in the first half of 2018.

In the digital charts, iKON’s “Love Scenario” was first place, Jang Deok Chul’s “Good Old Days” took second place, and MOMOLAND’s “Boom” was named third place. During the first half of 2018, iKON’s “Love Scenario” and “Good Old Days” were streamed 100 million times.

In the first half of 2018, about 1,748,213 copies of BTS’s “Love Yourself: Tear” albums were sold, ranking No. 1 on the chart of physical albums sold. Second place went to Wanna One’s “0+1=1 (I PROMISE YOU)” album, which sold about 841,844 copies. Third place also went to Wanna One for their album “1÷x=1 (UNDIVIDED)” for selling about 638,650 copies.

In the first half of 2018, BTS year recorded 25.3 percent of the record sales volume (in the top 100). Wanna One and TWICE came in second and third with 16.7 percent and 6.1 percent respectively. During this time, the sales of 400 albums (total sales from the 1st to 400th albums) increased by 4.1 million units compared to the same period last year. The main reason for this seems to be the increase in album sales of BTS and the new addition of Wanna One in in the physical album market.

Loen Entertainment topped the list of music sales in the first half of 2018. Key music sources include Jang Deok Chul’s “Good Old Days,” MOMOLAND’s “BBoom BBoom,” MeloMance’s “Gift,” and MAMAMOO’s “Starry Night.”

IRIVER took first place for album sales in the first half of 2018. Key album sources include BTS’s “Love Yourself: Tear,” EXO-CBX’s “Blooming Days – The 2nd Mini Album,” TWICE’s “What is Love?”. The fact that IRIVER has more than half of the album sales is expected to serve as a foundation for SK to enter the music market in the future.
