9MUSES's Kyungri Shares What Crossed Her Mind Before Renewing Contract With Star Empire
9MUSES’s Kyungri talked about her dreams and dilemmas in a recent interview with media outlet Star News.
Kyungri, who turned 28 (by Western reckoning) recently, talked about how precious her twenties are to her. She said, “I think this year is a very important time for me. That’s why I did many things this year.” The idol released a duet in May, before she officially made her solo debut in July. She added, “Soon, I’ll be able to promote with 9MUSES as well.”
When asked if she had thought about any unfulfilled dreams during her busy career as a celebrity, Kyungri replied, “I think I fulfilled my dream through this solo debut. That’s because, for the longest time, I’ve been wondering if I could ever promote as a solo artist. I need to do better since I got the great opportunity to debut as a solo artist before I hit my thirties.”
Kyungri was also asked about her greatest dilemma recently, and she said it was if she could still continue being a singer.
She explained, “I don’t think you can always be happy while working as a singer. I recently renewed my contract with Star Empire, but for a moment, I thought there was a possibility I wouldn’t [renew] with them. However, in the end, it didn’t turn out that way. I really didn’t think it was right for me to think about doing anything else besides being a singer at this point.”
Explaining her decision to continue, Kyungri added, “Around the time I renewed my contract, 9MUSES held a concert and I was exhausted for several reasons. However, during the concert, I felt this adrenaline rush. When my fans cheered for me, I thought, ‘I can’t be anything else but a singer’ and that I should be a singer for as long as I could. I really don’t think age is important. When I was younger, I had a lot of concerns about being a singer, but now, I’m able to control my mindset pretty well. Personally, I like ballad and hip hop. As a singer, I want to sing many songs.”
Kyungri also mentioned her goal for the rest of 2018, saying, “Through this album, I want to grow more as a singer and also release a different solo album afterwards. Of course, I want 9MUSES to promote a lot as well.”
Kyungri recently made her official solo debut with “Blue Moon.”
