he original webtoon artist of “My ID Is Gangnam Beauty” has shared their thoughts on the casting of the drama version.

The new Friday-Saturday drama from JTBC tells the story of a young woman who changes her life through plastic surgery, but finds that the ideal college life she dreamed of is not what she thought it would be.

The drama is based on the popular webtoon of the same name by Maeng Kee. The writer said in an interview, “I’m deeply moved by the fact that my comic is coming to life, like a moving picture. More than anything else, I’m grateful that the production staff have told me that they intend to be faithful to the original production. I’m excited for the first episode.”

They added, “If ‘My ID Is Gangnam Beauty’ is sensitive, it’s because it contains sensitive subject matter, so both the production staff and I are well aware of the original readers’ concerns about this. The drama writer has sent me the script after they finish writing it so I can offer them my feedback on dialogue or scenarios.”

The writer also shared their happiness at the casting choices. “As the female lead is specifically written as someone who has received plastic surgery, actresses might feel intimidated in taking on that role, but [Im Soo Hyang] was very responsive to the casting offer. Her expressions and acting were so similar to Mi Rae [the character]. I liked her scene so much that I’m using it as my profile picture.”

About Cha Eun Woo, they said, “From my first meeting with the production staff, I said that I wanted Kyung Suk to be played by someone who would be considered good-looking by almost everyone. I’m glad that came true. I saw the teaser and I think that Kyung Suk became even more attractive through Cha Eun Woo’s acting. I’m looking forward to his chemistry with Im Soo Hyang.”

“My ID Is Gangnam Beauty” premieres on July 27 at 11 p.m. KST.
