GFRIEND Explains Why They're Not Focused On Chart Performance

Ahead of their summer comeback, GFRIEND talked about their goals for their upcoming round of promotions!

In a recent interview with news outlet My Daily, GFRIEND shared that they hope to show a new side of their group through their upcoming comeback with “Sunny Summer.” Their new title track, which will be released on July 19, marks their first-ever collaboration with the famous producer Duble Sidekick.

When asked whether they felt pressured to live up to the impressive chart performance of their past hit songs, GFRIEND revealed that they choose to focus more on other aspects of their work.

Umji explained, “We receive this question every time we make a comeback, and to be honest, we think of it this way: when taking an exam or attending an interview, some people think that what’s most important is your results, while others think that what’s most important is doing your best during the process of preparing.”

“Looking at it from that standpoint,” she continued, “we put our focus on our preparations and the music that GFRIEND makes, as well as our promotions. Of course it’s great to see your test or interview results reflect the work you put into preparing, but we try not to focus or dwell on those kinds of things.”

She added, “We worked hard to prepare for this comeback, so I think we’ll be able to promote happily if we receive a lot of love. Our main goal is for GFRIEND to develop another musical style and color [as an artist], and we hope that by showing [a new style through this comeback], many people will think more broadly of GFRIEND as a group.”

GFRIEND’s new mini album “Sunny Summer” will be released on July 19 at 6 p.m. KST. Check out their teasers here!
