Creating A Day-To-Night Look Inspired By Red Velvet's Joy
K-pop is a treasure trove of beauty styles. Just take your pick. There are countless natural, everyday looks that you can rock for school or work, and even more sexy, dramatic looks fit for dimly lit clubs and semi-shady bars.
Just look to any music video or performance for your next beauty goals. With the sheer volume of K-pop groups and releases? That’s more inspiration than we can handle.
Check out the video above with beauty influencer Hana (@hanaylee) or catch the rundown below for the best of both worlds: a day-to-night transition inspired by Red Velvet’s Joy to take you straight from class to party.
Daytime look
For a daytime look, Hana took notes from one of Joy’s lighter looks, featuring soft eyes and a reddish-pink lip.
STEP 1: Start off with your base makeup. Use Cover FX’s Power Play Foundation to even out your skin tone.
With a concealer like Colourpop’s No Filter Matte Concealer, cover up any spots or hyperpigmentation.
STEP 2: Outline and fill in your brows with an eyebrow pencil like I’m Meme’s I’m Eyebrow Pencil.
STEP 3: Grab the Chica y Chico One Shot Eye Palette in the Lovely Pink Spring Edition, which has a mix of light and dark shades. Take the light brown color — Cozy Blanket — and apply across your entire lid using a brush or your finger.
STEP 4: Take the shimmery pink — the Twrinkle Pink Flower shade — and apply on the inner corner of your eyes.
STEP 5: Add some color to your face with the 3CE Blush Cushion from Stylenanda in Girlish Red, using your fingers to gently pat a small amount on your cheeks.
STEP 6: Using the 3CE Duo Contour Stick from Stylenanda, add some shadows under your cheekbones, your jawline, and the sides of your nose.
With the highlighter side of the Contour Stick, brighten up the bridge of your nose.
STEP 7: Finish up the look with a red-pink lip. Hana uses Karadium’s Pucca Smudging Tint Stick.
Nighttime look
This night look is inspired by Joy’s makeup from Red Velvet’s “Peek-A-Boo” MV, which features a warm smokey eye and a slightly darker lip.
STEP 1: On top of the daytime look completed above, apply the darker brown shade from the Chica y Chico One Shot Eye Palette above the outer corners of your eye, blending up into your crease or socket. Also apply across the upper lash line for an increased dramatic effect.
STEP 2: With the same shade, go over the outer half of the lower lash line.
STEP 3: Finishing up the eyes, take the 3CE Mood Recipe Palette #Overtake from Stylenanda and lightly apply the orangeish shade in the middle across the center of your lid to add dimension.
Using the shade on the bottom-right of the same palette, add some more on top of what you applied earlier to the outer half of your lower lash line to intensify the look.
STEP 4: Wrapping up the nighttime look, use Nakeup Face’s C-Cup Lip Tox-Tick lipstick in the Stalker shade for a slightly darker, more intense lip.
