Ha Jung Woo Speaks Proudly About

Ha Jung Woo shared his pride and hopes for the “Along with the Gods” film franchise in an interview.

Ha Jung Woo recently finished an overseas promotion tour for the film “Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days” with his co-stars Joo Ji Hoon, Kim Hyang Gi, Ma Dong Seok, and Kim Dong Wook.

Its prequel “Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds” dominated the box office at home and abroad, setting the record as the No. 1 Asian movie of all time in Taiwan and the No. 2 Korean film of all time in Hong Kong.

During the interview, Ha Jung Woo said, “Using the ‘Along with the Gods’ series as a stepping stone, I think many films will be released in this kind of format.”

The actor continued, “I think the reason why the ‘Along with the Gods’ series is gaining a lot of interest in Asia is because of the story. Many people across borders are interested in the story of the afterlife. I think the atmosphere and flow of the story expressed in the ‘Along with the Gods’ series is pan-Asian.”

He added, “But that doesn’t mean that the Korean film industry should just make franchises. I think they should first find stories that resonate with the world.”

Ha Jung Woo explained, “With a good plan, I think that with the start of ‘Along with the Gods,’ it could be a good opportunity for many people in the Korean film industry to advance globally. Didn’t we suggest the possibility of entering the global market and not just the domestic market? In that way, I feel an immense amount of pride that I participated [in the series].”

He concluded, “Instead of Hollywood-made films, I hope that Korea can instead become the center for Asian films. I think there’s potential and I look forward to it.”

“Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days” is currently playing in theaters and recently set the record for the fastest Korean film to surpass 9 million moviegoers.
