LOONA Shares Their Initial Reactions To Their Group Name

LOONA opened up about their thoughts on their group name during their debut showcase on August 20.

Though LOONA is the group’s official English name, the Korean version of the group name is 이달의 소녀,  which translates to “Girl of the Month.” When asked what their initial thoughts were of their group name, ViVi replied, “Before our debut, I assumed our group name would be in English. But then we were introduced to our name and my first thought was, ‘It’s pretty because it’s in Korean.’ I really like it.”

Haseul also added, “When I first heard it, I thought it was really unique. And it’s a name that has a lot of meaning for us. It fits with our concept because each of us released a solo album ahead of our group debut.”

Though LOONA official made their full group debut on August 20, they have been greeting fans through solo albums since October 2016. They have also promoted as unit groups as well, attracting a dedicated fandom through a unique and interesting debut project.
