Musical Actress Lee Soo Bin Shares Her Experience Working With Park Hyo Shin And EXO’s Suho

Musical actress Lee Soo Bin recently opened up about working alongside singers Park Hyo Shin and EXO’s Suho in the musical “The Man Who Laughs.”

“The Man Who Laughs” is based on the Victor Hugo novel of the same name and tells the story of Gwynplaine, a man with the terrible face of a monster but a heart of gold. His journey questions and criticizes the way society values humans, and sheds light on the importance of equality and human dignity. Lee Soo Bin takes on the role of Dea, who has a heart as pure as that of a child’s and though she cannot see, she has no problem seeing how good of a person Gwynplaine is.

When asked what it’s been like working with Park Hyo Shin and Suho, two singers who both play Gwynplaine and have both successfully crossed over into the world of musicals, Lee Soo Bin stated, “Each of them are so different and have their own unique colors.”

She went on to say, “Park Hyo Shin is very detailed and works very hard. For every line he has, he tries out different ways to express himself. If I just go with what he’s doing, we end up producing great moments together.” Lee Soo Bin also shared that Park Hyo Shin always has great ideas as she said, “He thinks a lot about how we can improve every moment. He looks deeply into each scene and analyzes every move carefully. And he always has great reactions. If I’m singing, he follows along with every note next to me and listens to all of my lines with great care.”

Regarding Suho’s version of Gwynplaine, Lee Soo Bin described him as, “Considerate.” She explained, “He’s considerate in all of his actions. As Dea is a blind character, I have many scenes where I have to be taken care of, and he’s always very soft-spoken and smooth with his actions towards me,” and “He’s very gentle when he’s helping me out. So I find it easy to follow along with what he’s doing.”

“The Man Who Laughs” is set to be performed from September 4 to October 28 at the Blue Square Interpark Hall in Seoul.
