The Boyz Comments On Coming Back At The Same Time As Many Popular Idols + Winning Rookie Awards

The Boyz shared their thoughts about their comeback, goals, and more.

On September 5, The Boyz held a comeback showcase for their first single album “The Sphere” at Sejong University’s Daeyang Hall.

About coming back with all 12 members after five months, they said, “This is our third showcase. We were really nervous during the first one. After going through the experience a couple times, I think we’re able to feel a little more relaxed despite our nervousness. We will work hard to show you better things in the future.”

The Boyz debuted last December with their mini album “The First.” The group was recognized by the public partly thanks to member and former “Produce 101 Season 2” contestant Ju Haknyeon and went on to release their second mini album “Giddy Up.”

In July, The Boyz received the Rookie Male Idol Award at the 2018 Brand of the Year Awards as well as the Rookie Award at the 2018 Soribada Best K-Music Awards in August.

Ju Haknyeon said, “We always said that the goal of The Boyz was the rookie award. We worked even harder on this album. We’ll continue to work hard to receive various kinds of awards.” Sunwoo added, “We won two rookie awards, but if we were to be more ambitious, then I think it would be nice for The Boyz to be named at the remaining award shows.”

Their latest single album has three tracks including the title track “Right Here,” energetic EDM track “L.O.U” and “KeePer” which was produced by Block B’s Park Kyung and released as a special single in July.

“Right Here” is an electronic pop track that captures The Boyz’ powerful, fun energy. Sunwoo notably participated in writing the lyrics and added more unique colors to the track. The song has honest, confident lyrics and an addictive chorus. At the showcase, The Boyz performed “Right Here” as well as “L.O.U.” The group pointed out and explained the Popeye and creaky dance as the point choreography.

About “KeePer,” the group said, “It’s a song about protecting someone you like by being near them. With Park Kyung’s style and The Boyz’s colors, a new song was born. It’s a cute track.”

They described working with Park Kyung, saying, “It was our first time working with Park Kyung, so we were both nervous and had a good time. He gave us lots of advice while working together and it was nice. I hope we can work with more seniors in the future.”

On their new, energetic concept, Sunwoo explained, “We’re still a blank slate. We’re still in the process of trying on different colors and there are still many colors left. I think we’re in the process of discovery.”

In addition to their concept being more energetic this time, the album also gives off more of a “city boy” feel. Sangyeon added, “We showed a youthful appearance last album, so we wanted to show urban, classy charms in this album.”

The Boyz will be making a comeback in the same month as many other artists such as NCT Dream, Sunmi, Girls’ Generation’s new unit Oh!GG, Oh My Girl, PENTAGON, GOT7, and WJSN.

“Many singers are having a comeback during our promotions,” commented Hwall. “Instead of feeling pressured, we want to promote with the goal of learning a lot from our seniors and growing even more.”

The Boyz released their single album “The Sphere” and MV for title track “Right Here” on September 5.
