Uee Talks About Choosing Another Weekend Drama And Emotional Scenes With Choi Soo Jong
Uee recently talked about working with her costars on KBS’s upcoming weekend drama “The Only One On My Side” (tentative title), along with her title of “Queen of Weekend Dramas.”
On September 12, “The Only One On My Side” held a press conference with Choi Soo Jong, Uee, Lee Jang Woo, Na Hye Mi, Yoon Jin Yi, Park Sung Hoon, and Jung Eun Woo in attendance.
“The Only One On My Side” is about Kim Do Ran (played by Uee) whose life gets turned upside down when her biological father appears after 28 years and tells her why he had to hide his identity. The drama will explore the idea of finding hope after meeting “the only one on [one’s] side.”
It is written by writer Kim Sa Kyung, who also wrote “Likable or Not,” “Loving You a Thousand Times,” My Love By My Side,” “Here Comes Mr. Oh,” and “Blow Breeze.” It will be directed by Hong Seok Gu, who previously directed “Marry Me, Mary!” “Cheer Up, Mr. Kim!” “Golden Cross,” “Perfect Wife,” and “Girls’ Generation 1979.”
With her previous weekend dramas, like “Ojakgyo Family” and “My Husband, Mr. Oh!,” hitting it big, Uee, who’s come to have the moniker of “Queen of Weekend Dramas,” was asked why she chose another weekend drama as her next work. She mentioned her costar Choi Soo Jong, saying, “There was no reason for me to not do it when my ‘father’ [Choi Soo Jong] was joining. I feel comfortable around him to the point where I thought we had met sometime on set. We also had great chemistry, as if we had done multiple script readings together.”
She continued, “I did feel a little pressured going from one weekend drama to another as soon as I completed [the previous one], but one of the reasons I chose this drama was because of Choi Soo Jong. I wondered when I could work with him again if not now. It’s an honor.”
Later, she stated, “When I see Choi Soo Jong’s eyes, I unconsciously become emotional. The story hasn’t been told yet, but I wonder how it feels to know that Choi Soo Jong’s character is a father and murderer.”
She continued, “I received a newcomer award for my work in ‘Ojakgyo Family.’ I hope that through this project, all of the actors can receive awards and break the highest viewership ratings record for KBS dramas.”
The drama will premiere on September 15 at 7:55 p.m. KST.
