tvN’s “100 Days My Prince” and KBS 2TV’s “Lovely Horribly” will face off for viewership ratings this Chuseok.

Many networks have pushed back the premieres of their new dramas due to the holiday, giving currently-airing dramas a chance to grab the attention of more viewers.

“100 Days My Prince” is in an advantageous position. The romantic historical drama starring EXO’s D.O. and Nam Ji Hyun, tells the story of a missing-person case and a marriage romance. It achieved 5 percent in viewership ratings during its premiere, which is the highest premiere viewership ratings for a tvN Monday-Tuesday drama.

After four episodes, “100 Days My Prince” recently recorded an average of 7.3 percent and a peak of 8.4 percent in viewership ratings, setting a personal best so far. It also recorded an average of 3.8 percent with a peak of 4.3 percent in its target audience of men and women from ages 20 to 49, and has become the No. 1 drama in its time slot.

Many viewers are reacting positively to the story development of the missing prince Lee Yool (played by D.O.) and his marriage to the village’s oldest woman Song Joo Hyun (played by Nam Ji Hyun) after losing his memory. Viewers also said they enjoyed watching elements of a historical drama with the power struggle and the newlyweds’ married life in a cozy town.

The actors were highly praised for being completely in-sync with their characters. D.O. and Nam Ji Hyun have to act as people whose societal positions completely changed overnight, and succeeded at doing so with their wide range of emotions. The success of the drama so far is making viewers wonder if “100 Days My Prince” will be able to become the reigning drama of Monday-Tuesday nights and take the place of SBS’s recently-ended “30 but 17.”

On the other hand, things are looking a bit more difficult for “Lovely Horribly.” Despite its talented cast including Park Shi Hoo, who has brought in high viewership ratings in the past, the drama has recorded around 2 percent.

“Lovely Horribly” is about a famous actor and a drama writer who share the same zero-sum fate and consequently affect each other’s lives. Many viewers looked forward to seeing Song Ji Hyo and Park Shi Hoo together on-screen. It also piqued viewers’ interest by incorporating the unexpected element of horror into a romantic comedy.

The idea itself was fun and premiere was well-received, but some have noted the unfocused storyline and obvious plot twists resulted in a decline in the drama’s ratings. The drama recorded viewership ratings of 2.9 percent last week. However, Park Shi Hoo and Song Ji Hyo have been showcasing their solid acting skills with comical portrayals of their characters.

There are now only two weeks left until the drama concludes. With the delay in the premiere of other new dramas, many are wondering if “Lovely Horribly” will be able to win over viewers this week.

“100 Days My Prince” and “Lovely Horribly” air on Mondays and Tuesdays at 9:30 p.m. KST and 10 p.m. KST respectively.
