Im Soo Hyang Shares Thoughts On Cha Eun Woo As An Actor In "My ID Is Gangnam Beauty"

In a recent interview following the conclusion of JTBC’s “My ID is Gangnam Beauty,” Im Soo Hyang talked about the importance of ASTRO’s Cha Eun Woo in the drama.

For this production, a majority of Im Soo Hyang’s fellow actors were rookies. Im Soo Hyang could have felt burdened about being the main character and senior actor, but she confessed that she thought she shouldn’t take the spotlight.

The actress said, “There are many rookie actors, and although Mi Rae [my character in the drama] had to lead the drama, I thought she should not steal the spotlight and just allow the actors around her to play a good role. However, that wasn’t easy. Those were things that I had to take through my title role. I think I learned a lot about thinking of the whole drama.”

Then she added, “I hoped that in this drama, the male lead Do Kyung Seok [Cha Eun Woo] would come out the best. This is a romantic comedy. I thought the male lead should be cool. [Cha Eun Woo] did a great job, so the drama came out well.”

Cha Eun Woo, whose nickname is “Face Genius” because of his good looks, is being praised for his perfect appearance that fit the webtoon-turned-drama. However, despite the fact that this is his first lead role in a drama, he may have received more attention for his looks rather than his acting.

In response to that comment, Im Soo Hyang said that Cha Eun Woo is an intelligent actor. She shared, “He’s smart, so when you tell him something, he understands it right away. While acting with him, I saw him growing [as an actor], and I was proud. His strength as an actor is that he’s able to act out melodrama with his eyes. I think that will shake the hearts of female viewers in the future. When he cried, it’s as if he’s shedding gems from his eyes. I envied him.”

Im Soo Hyang also mentioned the age gap between her and Cha Eun Woo, saying, “Eun Woo and I have a big age gap, so I approached him first because it might be too difficult or uncomfortable [for him].”
