Kim Hyun Joong Talks About Returning With A Romance Drama And How He Prepared For His Role
Kim Hyun Joong shared his thoughts on returning to a drama after four years.
On October 23, a press conference was held for KBS W’s upcoming drama “When Time Stopped” with actors Kim Hyun Joong, Ahn Ji Hyun, In Gyo Jin, Im Ha Ryong, Joo Suk Tae, and producing director Kwak Bong Chul in attendance.
“When Time Stopped” is a fantasy romance drama about a man named Moon Joo Woo (played by Kim Hyun Joong) who has the ability to stop time and the story of Kim Sun Ah (played by Ahn Ji Hyun), who enters his world of stopped time.
Since 2014, Kim Hyun Joong has made headlines for his legal disputes with his ex-girlfriend, and last April, he was also caught driving under the influence.
Appearing at a public event for the first time since these happenings, Kim Hyun Joong said, “I returned with a drama after a long time of four years. I’m grateful that more reporters are showing interest than I expected.”
He continued, “To be honest, many things happened during the last four years and I caused many people concern. I don’t know what I can say to apologize and to be forgiven. Instead of saying that I’ll atone through acting and music, I’ll show you a humane appearance while living my life from here on out.”
Kim Hyun Joong added, “I don’t know what viewers will think while watching this drama. I’m curious, but I thought that there wouldn’t be an end to it if I dwelled on it deeply. I thought a lot about how to portray my character. For the last three months, I researched my character and worked hard. I thought a lot about what would be the most important thing in order to complete Moon Joo Woo. It’s a pre-produced drama, so I can confidently say that I worked hard to live as Moon Joo Woo for the last three months. The judgment is up to the viewers. I hope you’ll enjoy watching it.”
Speaking about his decision to cast Kim Hyun Joong, director Kwak Bong Chul said, “I casted based on who would match well with each character. I didn’t feel pressured by Kim Hyun Joong’s controversies. I looked for someone who matched well visually and it seemed like Kim Hyun Joong would match well. Other people were also cast on that basis.”
“When Time Stopped” will premiere on October 24 at 11 p.m. KST, and will be available on Viki! Check out the teaser with English subtitles below.
