Kim Han Gil Announces He Has Lung Cancer + Thanks Wife Choi Myung Gil For Taking Care Of Him

Politician Kim Han Gil, the husband of actress Choi Myung Gil, has announced that he has stage four lung cancer.

In an interview published in the JoongAng Ilbo on October 26, it was reported that Kim Han Gil received the diagnosis in October of last year.

He told the outlet that while stage four cancer patients are generally said to have 10 more months to live, he was able to take a new kind of medicine that is effective for only two out of every 10 people. Thankfully, the medication has been effective for him and controlled the cancer cells. “If it continues on like this, it’s possible that I will fully recover,” he said.

He also expressed his gratitude to his wife Choi Myung Gil. He said, “While I was ill, I had no power to make decisions. My wife took such good care of me, as though she was taking care of a child.”

Kim Han Gil was previously the chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, and he currently appears along with Choi Myung Gil on the tvN reality show “Apart Together,” which shows married couples coming to value each other more as they spend time apart.

At a press conference for the show in January, Kim Han Gil spoke about his illness without revealing his diagnosis of stage four lung cancer. “My health was very poor at the end of last year,” he said. “I was very sick. My wife Choi Myung Gil was by my side taking care of me 24 hours a day. My health has now greatly improved.”
