IU Shares Heartwarming Story Behind Her Recent Contract Renewal With Agency

IU shared a heartwarming story about her recent contract renewal with her agency.

JTBC’s “Ask Us Anything” aired the second part of IU and Lee Joon Gi’s guest appearance on October 27, where the duo talked about a wide variety of topics.

While talking with the cast, IU opened up about why she decided to renew her contract with her agency Kakao M (then Loen Entertainment) for the second time. She said, “I’ve been working with the same staff for the past 11 years, ever since I was a trainee. My agency has never pushed me to do something they wanted, and they just left me alone. They’ve always treated me so well, even when I wasn’t doing well on the charts. I think they just want me to do what’s best for me.”

She went on to say, “To be honest, it would be a lie to say that I haven’t had those kind of thoughts. The thought that if I get a good offer, it wouldn’t be bad to try something new,” and “I wanted to hear what my agency would say to convince me to stay. But they had no plans to hold on to me. So I asked them, ‘You aren’t even going to try? What if I want to stay?’ and they said, ‘How could we make you stay if you found somewhere good to move on to?’ And that thoughtfulness is why I stayed.”

IU also revealed that for her contract renewal, she emphasized that her biggest stipulation was for improvements in working conditions for her staff.
