gugudan Talks About New Song “Not That Type,” Being Inspired By “Ocean’s 8,” And More

On November 6, gugudan held a showcase at the Yes24 Live Hall to commemorate the release of their new mini album “Act.5 New Action.”

Although gugudan debuted a new subunit earlier this summer, this is their first group comeback since February’s “Act.4 Cait Sith.”

For their new concept, the group shared that they were inspired by the movie “Ocean’s 8.” Kim Sejeong said, “We reinterpreted the movie ‘Ocean’s 8.’ In the movie, there is amazing synergy between a group of women who each have their own unique characters but come together to achieve a common goal. It’s a story that says every member has something to bring to the table.”

Mina said, “We wanted to keep the gugudan vibe [for ‘Not That Type’] but also show people a more natural side.”

Sally said, ‘The composition of the choreography for ‘Not That Type’ is really cool. The members show off their pretty dance lines, and the song is fun too.”

Kim Sejeong added, “The concept is ‘cool and pretty’ and the song shows the kind of ‘cool and pretty’ that only gugudan can do. The pose for ‘I’m not that type’ is the key point.”

Kim Sejeong also participated in writing lyrics for one of the songs on the album, “Dear.” She said, “It’s my first time writing lyrics. It’s a dreamy but warm kind of feeling. I wanted to capture the excitement of a girl before she makes her first confession.” Labelmate VIXX’s Ravi also produced another of the songs on gugudan’s album, “Do It.”

gugudan said, “There’s a phrase that says, ‘We trust them enough to listen and see.’ We want to become a group like that, so we will keep searching for good music that will get us there.”

gugudan released their album and title track “Not That Type” on November 6 at 6 p.m. KST.
