SHINee's Key Talks About Advice Taemin Gave On His Solo Debut

Ahead of the release of his solo debut album, SHINee’s Key talked about wanting to be active in many different fields, the invaluable time as a part of SHINee, and advice Taemin gave him on his solo debut.

On November 26, Key held a press showcase for his solo debut album “Face” at Konkuk University. Including his previously released track “Forever Yours,” the album includes title track “One of Those Nights,” an R&B song featuring Crush.

Key shared, “I don’t think I’ve seen a lot of people who have done multiple things at once including releasing an album. I wanted to be that kind of person. I wanted to do variety shows, films, and albums. I wanted to prove that I could juggle all of these. I worked hard because if I show a good side of myself in other areas, then I think people will show interest in my album as well.”

As SHINee debuted in 2008, this year marks the group’s 10th anniversary. Key commented, “SHINee’s 10 years could be seen as having passed both quickly and slowly. I’ve never really regretted it. It was a time spent happily. That time was valuable to me, and if I didn’t have that time, I doubt I would have been able to do all these different kinds of things on my own. It’s precious, valuable, and irreplaceable.”

On his members’ reactions to his solo debut, Key remarked, “The members supported me a lot, but I didn’t have a chance to meet and let them listen to the music. They’ve probably only heard the title track one or two times. Taemin is especially [busy] promoting in Japan. After listening to my title track and ‘Forever Yours,’ he said it was good because it felt like I had a different charm than him. Taemin said that I wouldn’t have any regrets if I did everything I wanted to. As Taemin is the senior when it comes to solo debuts, I understood what he meant.”

“Face” will be released on November 26 at 6 p.m. KST.
