Son Tae Young's Agency Responds To Her Son Being Spotted Sitting In Artists' Seats At 2018 Melon Music Awards

Actress Son Tae Young was invited as a presenter to the 2018 Melon Music Awards on December 1.

She presented the award for Best Song of the Year with Lee Sang Yoon. During the ceremony, her son was spotted sitting in the artists’ seats. The day after the awards, people online began to raise questions about preferential treatment.

On December 2, Son Tae Young’s agency, H8, stated to Ilgan Sports, “Son Tae Young went to the awards ceremony with her son. She did not want to be a bother to anyone because of her child, so we were quietly off by ourselves. However, he expressed a desire to watch his mother present and when we asked the organizers about it, they escorted him to the artists’ seats.”

The agency continued, “The child and one of our staff were sitting there only briefly to watch Son Tae Young present. That moment was what was caught on camera. As soon as Son Tae Young’s presentation was over, they left right away, and I think people saw that and misunderstood.”

They concluded, “There was no preferential treatment. However, if we caused any discomfort to people from the sight of him sitting in the artists’ seats for a few minutes, then we apologize.”

A source from her agency also shared with MyDaily, “The organizers escorted him to the seat. We didn’t realize it was the artists’ section. They went in just before the presentation, watched the presentation, and left.”

They added that the ceremony had taken place late at night and Son Tae Young had brought her child because she had been unable to find anyone to watch him. “They were all in the presenters’ waiting room together, but she couldn’t just leave her child and took him with her when she needed to leave for her presentation,” they said.

“However, after she’d left to go onstage, we asked if there was any place from which the boy could watch the presentation, and that was the seat to which he was escorted. They did explain that there were celebrities in those seats, but at the time that the boy was seated there, there were only a few singers. If we had known they were officially the artists’ seats, we would have felt pressured to refuse.”
