Oh Jung Se Talks About Working With EXO's D.O. + Having Prosopagnosia

Oh Jung Se recently talked about having prosopagnosia, learning to tap dance with EXO’s D.O. for “Swing Kids,” and more.

Prosopagnosia, also known as face blindness, is a disability that prevents someone from being able to differentiate between faces. People with prosopagnosia may need to repeatedly see others’ faces multiple times to recognize them, and in severe cases they are unable to recognize their own face in a mirror. It is known to develop after certain types of brain damage. The disorder has been portrayed in various dramas such as “The Beauty Inside” and “Rich Man, Poor Woman.” Oh Jung Se previously shared on another broadcast that he had been unable to identify his own son and had difficulty recognizing famous celebrities.

On his recent guest appearance on SBS Power FM’s “Park Sun Young’s Cine Town,” he opened up about the disability. He shared, “If I had met you on the street, I wouldn’t have recognized you. It’s not because I don’t remember, but I can’t perceive [different faces]. So there’s been a lot of incidents where I feel sorry towards those around me.”

Oh Jung Se then talked about what it was like working with D.O. of EXO. He remarked, “I received advice on dancing as I practiced tap dancing with Do Kyung Soo. Our skills were similar. Even though he’s really great at dancing, everyone starts at the bottom with tap dancing.” He added, “We both started at the bottom, but Do Kyung Soo definitely learned things faster. He absorbed things faster than Park Hye So or me.”

He praised his co-star, saying, “[D.O.] has an incredible schedule. His days are packed, but when he comes to the next rehearsal he’s much better than us. He’s someone who definitely works hard without showing it. I don’t know when he’s been practicing, but it makes me want to do better. On the other hand, Park Hye Soo and I both didn’t do so well, so I was comforted.”

Oh Jung Se also remarked about being known as the “invisible actor.” He commented, “I once said on a show, ‘I’d like it if I didn’t have a color as an actor,’ and I think that’s how the phrase stuck.”

“Swing Kids” will premiere on December 19.
