2018 MBC Drama Awards Announces Grand Prize Selection Process + Nominees Not Yet Finalized

The 2018 MBC Drama Awards will be proceeding with this year’s ceremony similarly to last year.

On December 12, a source from MBC stated, “This year’s Grand Prize (daesang) will not be decided through viewers’ text message votes. The Grand Prize winner will be chosen in a similar procedure to last year’s selection process.”

Although the Grand Prize was previously determined 100 percent by viewers’ votes, starting from last year, the MBC Drama Awards has called on experts such as drama critics and MBC producing directors (PDs) to vote on the winner. The awards for Popularity and Best Couple, however, will still be chosen through viewers’ votes.

“Less Than Evil” is MBC’s final drama to be aired this year and has been enjoying high viewership ratings every week since its premiere. Many have observed that it may even become one of the nominees for this year’s awards ceremony. In response, MBC stated, “We are currently discussing matters regarding the final nominees.”

Last year’s Grand Prize was won by Kim Sang Joong for his role in “Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People.”

This year’s ceremony will take place on December 30 with Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun hosting the show.
