INFINITE's Nam Woohyun Honestly Talks About "This Song Now" And His Process Of Songwriting

Nam Woohyun recently talked about his latest release “This Song Now” (literal translation).

The INFINITE member sat down for an interview, where he was asked about how the song came to fruition. He replied, “I think it’s been about eight months since I recorded [the song]. I have a storage of music, and there’s about 20 songs that I haven’t released to the world yet. Honestly, I think ‘This Song Now’ best describes the emotions that Nam Woohyun is feeling at the moment. Much like how actors project themselves through their characters while acting, I mixed in the stories of my life into the song. I wanted to say, ‘This song right now, the song that I need to hold on to, please listen to it. I don’t need all the other things, just please smile.’ It’s a song that I’ve really cherished, so it makes me happy to release it this time.”

Nam Woohyun was also asked about songwriting, to which he replied, “I really think about a lot of things while I’m writing. I do think a lot about the melody, but I think I especially consider the lyrics. I rack my brains while trying out a certain lyric and then trying out another lyric. It’s always different with each song, but there are times when I decide on the song title first, or I decide after I write the lyrics. Oftentimes, rather than one title, I’ll choose about five titles. Then I adjust the theme so that it fits the title and continue writing lyrics. I also experiment with multiple versions of the recording.”

He talked about his surprise release of “This Song Now,” saying, “It’s a song that I really could relate to in terms of the lyrics. It’s already been 9 years since INFINITE [debuted]. The thing about people is that they’re bound to be forgotten as time passes. As we’ve been active for a long time, one could say that it’s currently not the prime of INFINITE. In that sense, I related a lot to ‘This Song Now.'”

Nam Woohyun laughed and added, “I think I really cried out while singing this song.”
