Photographer Rie On Working With BTS For 2019 Season's Greetings + Talks About Red Velvet's Yeri And IU

On the December 23 broadcast of MBC Standard FM’s “Idol Radio,” photographer Rie talked about working with BTS for their 2019 Season’s Greetings.

She said she was pleasantly surprised with the group’s humble attitude. “Because they’ve reached this high of a status,” she said, “I figured there might be at least a little bit of an attitude like, ‘I’m BTS,’ but they were so down-to-earth and kind.” She added that they came into the shoot very comfortable, so she was able to work in a relaxed environment.

“BTS is so busy that we had the shoot at the height of the heat wave in the summer, but they worked really hard, and we finished faster than I had anticipated.”

Rie picked V as the most memorable member of the group for his interest in photography. “He knew about me even before we had worked together. I heard during the photo shoot that he was the one to recommend me for a [previous] photo shoot with Suga.”

When asked which celebrity takes the least amount of time to finish a photo shoot, Rie named V again. “He’s so handsome that no matter what angle you take a photo from, the photo turns out well. For any given concept that we shot for him, it only took him about 15 minutes.”

Red Velvet’s Yeri is the celebrity she’s worked with that has the least amount of throwaway photos. “When I worked with Red Velvet for their jacket shoot, Yeri was the first member I worked with,” said Rie. “The photos she liked and the ones I liked were the same, so I thought our sensibilities must be similar.” Rie added, “She gave me a good start, so the rest of the shoot [with Red Velvet] went well.” She said the two became close friends afterward, and that they like to take photos when they hang out.

One star that Rie wants to work with in the future is IU. “When I was just taking photos as a hobby,” said Rie, “I participated in a shoot as a staff member, and once, IU looked from the main camera into mine, which was next to it. That image of her was so charismatic that it’s embedded in my mind.”
