SSAW's Jeon Tae Kwan Passes Away

SSAW’s Jeon Tae Kwan has passed away at the age of 56 (by Korean reckoning).

Jeon Tae Kwan debuted as a member of the legendary band SSAW, which he formed together with Kim Jong Jin, in the mid-1980s. The duo, who is known for hits such as “I Guess Everyone Changes” and “Someone’s Dream” (literal translations), officially released their debut album in 1988 and went on to promote alongside artists like Cho Yong Pil, Kim Soo Chul, and Kim Hyun Sik.

After undergoing surgery for renal cancer in 2012, Jeon Tae Kwan had been battling cancer in his shoulder since 2014. His wife also passed away in April of this year.

At 1:50 a.m. KST on December 28, Yoon Jong Shin posted news of Jeon Tae Kwan’s passing on Instagram. He wrote, “Jeon Tae Kwan has left this world. Please rest comfortably in a place where you will no longer feel pain. Hyung, I was thankful for you.”

Yoon Jong Shin was one of the many artists who participated in SSAW’s tribute album “How to Maintain Friendships” (literal title) for the group’s 30th anniversary earlier this year.

We offer our sincerest condolences to Jeon Tae Kwan’s family and friends.
