The Double Cleansing Method: How To Do It Right And Which Combo Is Best For Your Skin

New year, 365 new chances to take care of your skin! While there’s not just one path to great skin, there are lots of small changes you can introduce to your routine if you’re looking forward to finally fall in love with skincare in 2019 (and believe me, once you do there’s no way back).

One of those paths is double cleansing. If you’ve never heard of this method before or have heard the name but don’t really know what it is about, you may be thinking double cleansing just means washing your face twice, but actually it calls for using two different types of cleanser — an oil-based one and a water-based one — to properly remove more of the pore-clogging impurities and irritating environmental agents that can lead to breakouts, dry skin, aging, and pigmentation, AKA, all the bad stuff.

But how does this method actually work? The first cleanser (oil-based) will take care of breaking down any makeup, SPF, and sebum on the surface of your skin. You will rub it on top of your dry skin for a couple of minutes and rinse with lukewarm water. The second cleanser (water-based) will take care of the sweat, bacteria, and old skin cells trapped inside your pores. This one you’ll apply onto damp skin and rub for around a minute before rinsing off again with lukewarm water. Following these steps will not only leave your skin fresh and waste-free but will allow your toners, serums, and moisturizers to absorb better, another great reason to give this method a try ASAP.

But you can’t just use any cleanser out there! Depending on your skin type, you should pick and choose the ones that will best work their wonders on your complexion. Sound like you’re ready to start double-cleansing your skin away? Here are some of our favorite combos for every skin type!
