Sandra Oh Wins Best Actress In TV Drama Award At Golden Globes + Warms Hearts By Expressing Love For Her Parents In Korean

Sandra Oh and her parents were definitely one of the highlights of the 76th Golden Globe Awards!

The actress was an MC along with actor Andy Samberg for the star-studded event that was held on January 6. Born and raised in Canada to Korean immigrant parents, Sandra Oh is the first performer of Asian heritage to host the award ceremony. She introduced her parents to the audience during the opening monologue, and she also took a serious and emotional moment to address the significance of representation and diversity.

“I said yes to the fear of being on this stage tonight because I wanted to be here to look out into this audience and witness this moment of change,” she said to great applause.

“I’m not fooling myself,” she continued. “Next year could be different, it probably will be. But right now, this moment is real. Trust me, it is real.” She looked into the audience and said, “Because I see you, and I see you. All these faces of change. And now, so will everyone else.”

Sandra Oh was recognized for her performance in the BBC America show “Killing Eve” with the Best Actress in Television Series Drama award that evening. This is the first time in 39 years that an actress of Asian heritage has received the award.

As Sandra Oh took the stage, she was touched to see her father giving her a standing ovation, and she said in joy, “Oh, daddy!”

After expressing her gratitude to everyone who’s worked on the show with her, her family, her team, and more, she said, “But mostly, there are two people here tonight that I’m so grateful that they’re here with me. I’d like to thank my mother and my father.”

She said in Korean, “Mom, dad. I love you,” and bowed. Many viewers have named her speech as as one of the most touching and memorable moments of the night.

After first winning a Golden Globe award in 2006 for Best Supporting Actress  for her role in “Grey’s Anatomy,” Sandra Oh is now the first actress of Asian descent to win multiple Golden Globes!
