7 Heart-Melting Moments From

We may have only gotten two episodes of “The Last Empress” this week instead of the usual four, but that didn’t stop the drama from delivering its characteristic high-quality suspense, intrigue, and rom-com content! As relationships continue to grow and strengthen, and new information comes to light, characters gave us plenty of heart-melting scenes this week. From the sad and sentimental to the silly and cute, here are seven moments that melted our hearts in this week’s episodes!

Warning: spoilers for Episodes 33 and 34 below!

1. Hyuk’s apology

First up, Hyuk (Shin Sung Rok) finally swallows his pride and apologizes to Sunny (Jang Nara) for having received the blood transfusion that would have saved Sunny’s mother’s life years ago. As Hyuk almost never admits to being in the wrong, this is a huge step for the Emperor, and it’s nice to see that he’s trying to be a better person.

Equally touching is Sunny’s graciousness in conceding that it was not really Hyuk’s fault, which is incredibly generous considering the situation led to her mother’s death.

2. Hyuk’s remorse

After Kang Hee reveals the truth to Hyuk that his first wife, Empress So Hyun, did not actually have an affair with her bodyguard, Hyuk finally realizes the gravity of his crime: murdering So Hyun was horrific enough to begin with, but now Hyuk knows that she had not even betrayed him after all. Hyuk grieves over the ashes of his beloved empress in this heartbreaking scene.

3. Hyuk’s search for his bracelet

On a lighter note, now that Hyuk is falling for Sunny, he decides that he needs to recover the couples bracelet that she gave to him when they first got married. And his antics when searching for the missing bracelet are so earnest that it’s hard not to smile at this scene:

4. Sunny and Woo Bin’s shy flirting

When Sunny and Woo Bin (Choi Jin Hyuk) are left alone while on a double date with the Emperor and Princess So Jin, Sunny adorably fumbles her words as she compliments Woo Bin. Equally cute are Choi Jin Hyuk’s subtle smiles, which are definitely one of the best parts of this shy romance.

5. Hyuk’s protectiveness

Hyuk can be extremely loyal when he likes someone, and now that the Emperor knows about Princess So Jin’s (Lee Hee Jin) crush on Woo Bin, he is determined to protect his friend from his flighty sister. The bromance lives on!

6. The dance party

The awkward double date continues as Woo Bin, So Jin, Hyuk, and Sunny take to the dance floor, where thankfully, a misstep by Sunny lands her right into Woo Bin’s arms, where she looks much happier than she had been while dancing with Hyuk!

7. Ari’s lesson

Hyuk wasn’t the only one apologizing this week, as the Empress Dowager also had to say sorry to Sunny for framing her for trying to hurt Princess Ari (Oh Ah Rin). And the Empress Dowager’s lesson in apologizing came from none other than the little princess herself. It’s heartwarming to see Ari become more compassionate and considerate by the day!
