Yoon Se Ah Talks About "SKY Castle" Ending, Working With Other Lead Actresses, And More

Yoon Se Ah recently sat down for an interview to discuss her latest drama “SKY Castle.”

In the JTBC drama, Yoon Se Ah plays No Seung Hye, Cha Min Hyuk’s (Kim Byung Chul) wife and Cha Seo Joon (Kim Dong Hee), Cha Ki Joon (Jo Byeong Gyu), and Cha Se Ri’s (Park Yoo Na) mother.

During the interview, Yoon Se Ah chose the drama’s diverse and charming characters as the main reason for its immense popularity. She explained, “I think the charm of this drama is that one might feel as if they cannot understand it on an emotional level, but without realizing it, they end up understanding. I also had moments where I felt pangs of guilt. There’s a line where Han Seo Jin (Yum Jung Ah) tells Lee Soo Im (Lee Tae Ran), “What does someone who hasn’t even given birth to a child know?” I felt a prick at my conscience to see that [scene]. I think every one of those things are there, so the reaction becomes more explosive as they pile up.”

The actress then talked about the drama’s lead female characters: Han Seo Jin (Yum Jung Ah), Lee Soo Im (Lee Tae Ran), Jin Jin Hee (Oh Na Ra), and her own character No Seung Hye. In the drama, these four people had a tense relationship, but in reality, the actresses cared deeply for one another.

Yoon Se Ah stated, “There are people who think that because four women gather to film together, there’d be some tension [between us], but we really aren’t like that. There are a lot of scenes [we have] as a group, but there are also many takes we have to film, so even if you have a single line, you’d have to say it at least six times. On top of that, we have rehearsals, so you can’t help but feel exhausted after filming. So everyone helped each other finish [filming] quickly. I wondered if there was a warmer set than this. Thanks to them, there were many great scenes.”

She then added that the four actresses would have many conversations prior to filming so that their characters’ individual fashion styles would not overlap. Yoon Se Ah remarked, “We avoided each other’s preferred styles. Han Seo Jin had a neat style, while Jin Jin Hee had an excessive style. Lee Soo Im wore many comfortable clothes, but they were similar to the ones I usually wear. When I asked Lee Tae Ran where she got [those clothes], she said it was her own clothes. Haha. I chose a ‘Paris’ style.”

The actress then talked about the drama’s highly-anticipated conclusion. She commented, “I don’t really remember the ending, but I like it perfectly. Tears and laughter never coexisted in each episode. It seems that the unpredictable development continued well until the last episode. It was to the point where I wanted to live in ‘SKY Castle’ forever. I heard many people talk about their ratings promises. I heard [SF9’s Chani] also promised to dance on the street with Jo Byeong Gyu and Kim Dong Hee. I want to follow them and dance too. I like everything. Haha.”

The drama’s finale is scheduled to air on February 1 at 11 p.m. KST. “SKY Castle” will also soon be available with English subtitles on Viki.
