"2019 Idol Star Athletics Championships" Shares What To Look Forward To From New Year Special

MBC has shared some things to look out for in the upcoming “2019 Idol Star Athletics Championships – New Year Special”!

This season’s special of the idol athletics show features a great lineup of idols taking on athletic challenges and showing their teamwork and skills. The events include track, archery, penalty shootout, rhythmic gymnastics, and bowling.

Ahead of the special’s broadcast this week, MBC gave fans an idea of what they can get excited about. The first item on the list is plenty of close-up shots of the idols and their famous visuals. This includes TWICE and Red Velvet, both known for their stunning looks, going head to head in an archery rematch that will feature TWICE wearing costumes that make them look like archers straight out of the history books.

Also, EXO’s Chanyeol and ASTRO’s Cha Eun Woo will be going up against each other in bowling once again. MBC described how they both not only have good looks that make them appear like they’re the leading male character in a teen drama, they’re also so skilled in the sport that they turn the event into a bowling drama.

Another moment to get excited about is the penalty shootout, which MBC highlights will feature handsome male idols from many groups. The event is being included this year as a way to commemorate the show’s 10th anniversary. It’s also said that there will be the birth of a second “Scoreboard Guy” this year, after The Boyz’s Hyunjae went viral last season for his visuals when he appeared in a close-up on the big screen scoreboard.

In addition to all this promised eye candy, MBC has shared that there will be many new records set this season.

One thing many fans look forward to each year is seeing whether idols are able to score a “perfect gold” in archery by breaking the camera located in the bullseye of the target. It’s said that the camera lens is broken twice this season!

On top of that, there are event records broken in both male and female archery events as idols make history. New highest scores are also established by male and female idols in the bowling events.

It’s been shared that in the rhythmic gymnastics event, viewers will see a new record set by one of the competitors. This will break the stronghold that WJSN member Cheng Xiao’s record has held over the event at the show.

In addition, lots of laughs and fun are promised from this season’s special. iKON’s B.I brings the laughs in a cupid costume during the archery event, and Bobby is said to up the fun atmosphere at the stadium with his excited ceremony during the penalty shootout. The members of Celeb Five, who took part in the show’s bowling event for the first time, are said to have everyone laughing and on the edge of their seats over their promise to shave their heads if they won.

The “2019 Idol Star Athletics Championships – New Year Special” airs on February 5 and 6 on MBC at 5:45 p.m. KST, and will be available on Viki!
