K-Pop Twitter Records Over 5.3 Billion Tweets In 2018

K-pop is truly taking over Twitter! It has now been announced that there were over 5.3 billion tweets about K-pop last year.

The top 20 countries that tweeted the most about K-pop in 2018 were (listed by region): the United States, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru, France, Turkey, the United Kingdom, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The 2018 Mnet Asian Music Awards, one of the biggest K-pop events of the year, garnered 56 million award-related tweets in the three days leading up to the award ceremonies, which were held from December 12 to 15. This was a new record set by K-pop fans, as there were 42 million award-related tweets in 2017.

BTS and ARMY came in the lead last year when BTS earned the title of the most tweeted about account in the world in 2018. The most liked tweet worldwide was J-Hope’s dance video for the #InMyFeelingsChallenge.

Ahead of EXO’s comeback in November with “Don’t Mess Up My Tempo,” fans generated over 24 million tweets using the hashtag #EXO_Tempo. In addition, EXO’s Twitter Blueroom live Q&A session before their comeback had over 1.6 million fans watching, which was the highest number of real-time views on a live K-pop Twitter Blueroom broadcast.
