Kwak Dong Yeon Looks Back On His Career And Shares His Regrets On 7th Debut Anniversary

On February 25, Kwak Dong Yeon held a V Live broadcast to celebrate his 7th debut anniversary with fans. The actor made his debut in 2012 in the drama “My Husband Got a Family.”

Kwak Dong Yeon first shared what he had been up to since the end of his latest drama, SBS’s “My Strange Hero.”

“I’m doing well, meeting up with people that I wasn’t able to meet up with while filming,” he said. “I also did something weird to my hair. I bleached it twice and dyed it once and got the color I wanted. It’s a hairstyle that took me four hours. I dyed it with the mindset of wanting to do something out of the ordinary.”

About his anniversary, he said, “I didn’t even realize it was coming up. My agency told me and I was like, ‘7 years?’ It feels like it’s been 3 years or so. I can’t fully believe it’s real. The 7 years went by so fast.” He added, “It’s been 7 years since my debut but 9 years with my agency [FNC Entertainment]. I’ve been here for 9 years. Isn’t that a lot? I’ve been working at the same place for 9 years. I think I should get an honorable employee title.”

Of his career, Kwak Dong Yeon shared that he had one major regret. “I couldn’t have a proper school life,” he said. “I wasn’t able to build a strong fellowship and friendship with my peers at school. As soon as a route opened up in front of me [for acting], I gave up on my studies. I thought to myself, ‘I’m always going to be acting, so when will I use what I learn in school?’ I thought I’d never have to use my studies later in life, so I gave up. I slept a lot at school. My main pleasure in going to school was the bread they sold in the cafeteria.”

He also talked a little about his debut project, “My Husband Got a Family.” “It’s the project that made me who I was,” he said affectionately. “I had to film a bust shot about 20 times. But the cast and crew didn’t get angry with me. They told me that it was okay and cheered me on because they knew I was nervous. I was so grateful and it turned out as a good memory.”

He added, “I remember the first broadcast really well too. I wanted to watch it when it aired, but the agency told me I had to practice and wouldn’t let me watch. So I hid in a corner of the practice room and watched on my cell phone.”

Kwak Dong Yeon will hold his first Korean solo fan meeting on March 16.
