Lee Deok Hwa Accused Of Not Paying Back His Debt + Agency Denies

On February 27, news outlet OSEN relayed a statement from a person known as “A,” who argued that Lee Deok Hwa is indebted to her.

According to the report, the actor established a club under his brother-in-law’s name 40 years ago. When it was time for Lee Deok Hwa to sell the club, he asked “A” to co-sign a contract in order to receive premium worth of 100 million won (approximately $89,432) from the person who will be leasing the space after him.

“A,” who owned a hotel at the time, agreed to co-sign the contract, allowing Lee Deok Hwa to receive the premium. However, it was later revealed that Lee Deok Hwa had not paid his premium, leading “A” to pay the full amount as his guarantor. In the end, she ended up paying 100 million won (approximately $89,432) on behalf of Lee Deok Hwa.

“A” formally requested Lee Deok Hwa to pay her back three times in November 2017, January 2018, and once again on February 23, 2018, but she did not hear back from the actor until May 2018. She also said that she postponed taking legal action against Lee Deok Hwa because she did not want to cause problems to her hotel.

In May 2018, “A” was finally able to receive 20 million won (approximately $17,887) from Lee Deok Hwa. While it was only a small portion of the alleged debt, she decided to accept it to take care of urgent personal matters.

In response, Lee Deok Hwa’s agency denied the allegations. Regarding the information about Lee Deok Hwa paying money to “A” last year, the agency said, “It was to help her because he pitied her. It wasn’t a repayment of debt.”
