Lawyers Discuss Potential Punishments For Jung Joon Young If Found Guilty Of Sharing Hidden Camera Footage

On March 12, several lawyers shared their opinions on the recent issues surrounding Jung Joon Young sharing illegal hidden camera footage with male celebrity friends in chatrooms.

Lawyer Baek Sung Moon appeared on CBS Radio’s “Kim Hyun Jung’s News Show” (literal title) and said, “For Seungri, his case pertains to violating the Act on the Punishment of Arrangement of Commercial Sex Acts. If the allegations are true, he is subject to fewer than three years in prison and a penalty smaller than 30 million won (approximately $26,549).” Lawyer No Young Hee continued, “Filming illegal videos violates the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, Etc. of Sexual Crimes. It’s a much bigger crime than the arrangement of commercial sex acts.”

According to Article 14 (Taking Photos by Using Cameras, etc.) of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, Etc. of Sexual Crimes, filming another individual’s body parts without their consent leads to a punishment of less than five years in prison and fewer than 30 million won (approximately $26,549) in fines. Spreading those illegally taken photos or videos leads to additional punishments. If the person being filmed consented to being on camera but not to the dissemination of the photos or videos, the perpetrator will be sentenced to less than five years in prison and fewer than 30 million won (approximately $26,549) in fines. If the images or videos are shared for commercial purposes, the perpetrator is sentenced to less than seven years in prison and fewer than 30 million won (approximately $26,549) in fines.

Meanwhile, many people have speculated that Jung Joon Young’s police investigation will happen on March 13, though he returned to Korea in the evening of March 12 KST. The police stated, “We cannot reveal whether we will be summoning Jung Joon Young for an investigation tomorrow (March 13).”
