Ahn So Hee Talks About The Mistaken Assumption People Often Make About Her

In a recent interview and pictorial for Esquire magazine, Ahn So Hee opened up about her new drama “Welcome to Waikiki 2” and how she hoped it would change people’s perceptions of her.

Ahn So Hee is starring in the second season of JTBC’s hit drama “Welcome to Waikiki” as Kim Jung Eun, an aspiring actress who will work any job she can get her hands on in order to make ends meet. Although her character may appear entirely different from her real-life personality, the former Wonder Girls member shared that she was actually quite similar to Kim Jung Eun in real life.

“In the drama, Jung Eun is an aspiring actress that has a lot of spirit and a bright energy,” said Ahn So Hee. “She’s easygoing, very curious, and a little nosy.”

She went on, “People who see me for the first time often think that I’m very quiet and don’t talk much, but when I’m with my close friends, I talk a lot, just like Jung Eun. Even the director and the writer [of ‘Welcome to Waikiki 2’] didn’t see Jung Eun Yi in me at all at first, but after unexpectedly discovering aspects of her personality in me, they said that they thought I’d be fun [in the part].”

The idol-turned-actress added, “Although I’m still shy, I’m gradually learning to loosen up while playing Jung Eun Yi in ‘Welcome to Waikiki 2.'”

Ahn So Hee also revealed that she hopes that people will look at her differently after seeing a new side of her in “Welcome to Waikiki 2.”

“When I see myself in dramas or films, it feels very new,” she explained. “By showing lots of different sides of myself through my acting, I want to more freely open up the image that the general public has of Ahn So Hee.

“I want people to watch ‘Welcome to Waikiki 2’ and say, ‘Ahn So Hee had that kind of side to her as well?’ and ‘Was Ahn So Hee that energetic and easygoing?'”
