Celeb Five To Be 1st Female Korean Team To Perform At Melbourne International Comedy Festival

Celeb Five is going global!

On April 1, it was revealed that Celeb Five will be performing at the 2019 Melbourne International Comedy Festival in Australia. The group was invited after Bridget Bantick, one of the associate directors of the festival, attended the 2018 Busan International Comedy Festival and watched Celeb Five perform at the opening ceremony.

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival is in its 33rd year and is one of the three biggest comedy festivals in the world alongside the U.K.’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe and Canada’s Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal. Celeb Five will be the third Korean comedic team, and the first predominantly female Korean team, to be invited to the Melbourne festival following Ongals and drawing circus team Croquiky Brothers.

Bridget Bantick explained, “We’re very excited and honored to have Celeb Five participate in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. We are certain that Melbourne will love them and we are grateful that Celeb Five have made time in their busy schedule to attend the event. Personally, I am excited for their performance at ‘Upfront,’ a gala event that will showcase some of the greatest female comediennes the world has to offer.”

Celeb Five will be performing “Shutter” as the closing act at “Upfront,” an all-female comedienne event that takes place on April 17. Then on April 19, they will also perform for the outdoors event “Very Big Laugh Out,” and the “Festival Club” event as well.

The group stated, “We are very honored to have the opportunity to stand on a stage many dream of, and we will always do our best when we are on stage.” Leader Kim Shin Young said, “This feels like our first step towards standing on our dream stage on the ‘Ellen Degeneres Show.’ We’re excited to see what kind of reaction our performances will get overseas.”

Celeb Five is a dance group of four comediennes Song Eun Yi, Kim Shin Young, Shin Bong Sun, and Ahn Young Mi. The group was formed through a web variety show series and they have received much love for their energetic choreography and unique visuals.
