Lee Il Jae Passes Away After Battling Lung Cancer

Lee Il Jae has passed away at the age of 58 from lung cancer.

According to a source from the entertainment industry, the actor spent his last moments surrounded by his family at Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital in the hospice ward in the early morning of April 5.

Lee Il Jae previously appeared on a variety show last year, where he revealed that he had been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. He stated that he hadn’t revealed his illness to those around him because he didn’t want to worry them. He also shared his strong determination to continue his activities after having beaten the cancer, receiving support from colleagues and viewers.

Born in 1960, Lee Il Jae graduated from Hanyang University with a degree in Theater and Film. He made his debut as a theater actor in 1981, and became known after appearing in 1990 film “The General’s Son,” with his role Kim Dong Hwe. After appearing in all three “The General’s Son” films, he continued to promote through various historical dramas such as “Rustic Period,” “Age of Warriors,” “Jang Gil San,” “Yeon Gaesomun,” “The King and I,” “The Great King, Sejong,” and more. He also made a special appearance in 2017 film “The Sheriff in Town.”

Lee Il Jae married his wife Hwang Ji Seon in 2000, and leaves behind two daughters.
