Park Bo Young And Ahn Hyo Seop Talk About How They Approached Their Characters For "Abyss"
Park Bo Young and Ahn Hyo Seop opened up about how they decided to take on their characters for tvN’s “Abyss”!
tvN’s new Monday-Tuesday drama “Abyss” held a press conference on May 3, and the event was attended by Park Bo Young, Ahn Hyo Seop, Lee Sung Jae, Lee Si Eon, and producing director Yoo Jae Won.
In the drama, Park Bo Young and Ahn Hyo Seop play Go Se Yeon and Cha Min, two childhood friends who are murdered but are then brought back to life by a magical stone called Abyss. They go through completely different experiences as Go Se Yeon goes from an exceptionally beautiful prosecutor to an “average” woman, while Cha Min transforms into a conventionally handsome man.
When asked about how they approached their characters, Park Bo Young said, “I was worried that some of the lines regarding my character’s looks may make viewers feel uncomfortable, so I’m speaking with our director and changing some of the lines to express a thought in a different way. Our drama is sometimes very serious but sometimes comical, so I’m focusing a lot on how to transition between those two without overdoing it.”
Ahn Hyo Seop confessed that he feels pressure from having to play a character who is considered a “legendary god-like” figure and flaunts his good looks. He explained, “I did feel pressure because I knew the drama would be more fun if there was a really big difference in the changes between Park Bo Young and myself. There’s nothing I can do right now to change how I look. But the staff and crew gave me a lot of courage and I was able to act like I’m really cool and handsome.”
“Abyss” is set to premiere on May 6 at 9:30 p.m. KST.
