Watch: Eric Nam Talks About His New K-Pop Podcast, Says He Almost Cried Watching BTS At The BBMAs

Eric Nam appeared on the May 10 broadcast of KBS 2TV’s “Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook” and talked about his new K-pop podcast called K-Pop Daebak.

He said, “It’s a little strange saying this about my own podcast, but it’s doing really well. It’s hit No. 1 a lot. If you listen to it, it means you’re on trend.”

Asked which group he would introduce on his podcast if he could choose just one, Eric Nam said, “Wouldn’t it be BTS?”

Talking about watching BTS at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards, he said, “I almost cried.” Yoo Hee Yeol added that what BTS has done is really amazing, and Eric replied, “Really. I got goosebumps. Did you see it? They were holding up signs for Kim Taehyung [BTS’s V]. And they were doing all the fan chants.”

Yoo Hee Yeol asked Eric what kind of signs he’d want people to hold up for him if he were to perform at the Billboard Music Awards, and he said, referring to the commercials he’s become famous for in Korea, “I think I would be okay with anything that’s not ‘hotel oppa‘ or ‘constipation oppa.’ I would be so thankful if people were just holding up my name.”

Yoo Hee Yeol said, “It’s okay if they’re not even holding any signs. I just want to be invited once and watch, even from the very back.”

Eric Nam said, “I feel the same.”

The singer went on to talk about finding his own sound and how he had always been told in the past that American pop music wouldn’t work in Korea. “As time passes, I’ve found the kind of pop music that works for me, and because Koreans listen to a lot of pop too, it’s becoming a good fit. Just like my new song that’s coming out and the one I just performed called ‘Lose You,’ I want to make music that’s clearly my style.”

Yoo Hee Yeol then asked Eric Nam if he would sing a pop song that he’s into nowadays, and Eric chose “Shallow” from the film “A Star Is Born” starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.
