WINNER Talks About Making A Comeback Amidst Ongoing Controversies Involving YG Entertainment

WINNER has shared their thoughts on how it felt to make their latest comeback despite the ongoing controversies surrounding YG Entertainment.

The group’s latest hit “Ah Yeah” has already grabbed the No. 1 spot on various major realtime charts, and the album also topped iTunes album charts in at least 19 countries.

During an interview for WINNER’s latest mini album “WE,” Kang Seung Yoon talked about why they chose “Ah Yeah” as the title track. He said, “Every comeback, we think about wanting to show a different side of us. If you listen to our B-sides, they each have a different style. When we thought about what song would be good, ‘Ah Yeah’ felt very refreshing. It’s a song about farewells, and it’s a different topic from styles we’ve done in the past, but it’s also a bright song which made it feel refreshing.”

WINNER also revealed that Yang Hyun Suk had a positive response to the song, saying that he complimented the members for having four different styles for each of their songs. They shared, “We have a group chat to talk about our results, and we are thankful that he said today, ‘I think there are good results due to the hard work from you guys.'”

The members also talked about how they feel about the recent controversies surrounding YG. Kang Seung Yoon said, “While it was a confusing and surprising situation, we weren’t as largely affected because our album is something we go to our studio to work hard to produce. Rather than getting stressed mentally, we committed more to our work with only the desire for our fans to hear to the new songs.”

They added, “There were no special instructions for us amidst the confusing situation. We were often told, ‘You guys just go on your own path and prepare.’ Because of that, we were able to commit fully to our work. Actually, I think we were able to make a comeback like this because we didn’t receive any pressure.”

On their teamwork, Kang Seung Yoon shared that everything was possible because the four members banded together to work towards a common goal. He said, “While we each have our own jobs such as who makes the makes the music and who choreographs, the fact that we weren’t alone and listened to the other members’ opinions was what gave us the strength to come this far during the five years.”

He also shared his gratitude to the fans, naming them as the reason they were able to make it so far. He explained, “It might be an obvious answer, but I believe it wholeheartedly. There were many times I thought fans could leave us, so I am sincerely thankful [that they stayed by our side.]” The members also expressed their gratitude on placing first on charts for all their title tracks during the five years they have been promoting despite the nervousness they felt each time.

Finally, WINNER also shared their goals for the future. They shared, “We want to release a WINNER album in the second half of the year. If it’s possible, our goal is to combine the two albums to make a third studio album. We have to try hard to see if this will happen.”
