GOT7 Shares Why They're Not Afraid Of The '7-Year Jinx'

In an interview that took place before their comeback with “SPINNING TOP: BETWEEN SECURITY & INSECURITY,” GOT7 shared their thoughts on the group’s future.

In particular, they were asked about the “7-year jinx,” which refers to the fact that most idol groups disband at the end of their seven-year contracts. GOT7 debuted in 2014, meaning that contract renegotiations will likely start taking place next year, if not sooner.

JB said, “It’s true that we don’t have a lot of time left on our contracts. But all seven of us share the same opinion. We’re going to keep going as seven members.”

Jinyoung added, “People call it the ‘7-year jinx’ but I think that the times have changed. There are a lot of seniors who have surpassed the 7-year mark. Because we have close seniors that have promoted for a long time together, we never once thought, ‘Are we going to go our separate ways after 7 years?'”

Mark said, “In the past, we talked a lot about staying together with seven members. I think we became more aware of it after people started asking us, ‘Shouldn’t you be renewing your contracts?'”

JB concluded, “I think that all of us recognize that it could be difficult for us to promote completely alone without the other members. That’s why we’re going to keep protecting the existence of ‘GOT7.'”

GOT7 released the music video for “ECLIPSE” on May 20 at 6 p.m. KST.
