Super Junior's Kyuhyun Says He Doesn't Know How To Talk To Younger Female Idols

Super Junior’s Kyuhyun, who recently made a solo comeback with his third single album “The Day We Meet Again,” sat down for an interview with Star Today.

Talking about serving as a public service worker for his mandatory national service, Kyuhyun said, “I’m a little apologetic because I had to serve as a public service worker and not an active duty soldier because of a car accident. The last two years weren’t that bad. Time flew by faster than I expected.”

He added that it was difficult sticking to a normal 9-to-6 routine for work. “I’m a night owl and I’ve never had a regular routine, so going to work from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day was difficult. I think all I ever looked forward to was Friday. I would start getting excited on Thursday.” Laughing, Kyuhyun said he realized that this is what it’s like working as an employee at a conventional company.

Kyuhyun also talked about his new release “Aewol-ri” and how it came to be. “I wrote the song while on vacation on Jeju Island in Aewol-ri. I thought that one of the saddest moments in life is when someone you love doesn’t love you back. And the growing distance makes it hard for both parties. So I took the topic of one-sided love and wrote ‘Aewol-ri.'”

Kyuhyun is now a 13-year veteran in the industry, having joined Super Junior in 2006, and when he goes to music shows, he’s more or less one of the oldest artists present. He said, “Even before I went to the military, I think I was one of the oldest.”

The singer said he struggles sometimes, especially with the younger female idols. “I’m friendly to the younger male artists, but when I see the junior female artists, I don’t know how to interact with them, so I run away. I want to say hi… if they say hi to me, I can say hi back.”

On the secret to Super Junior’s long run as a group, Kyuhyun said it’s the members’ love for the team. “The members have a lot of affection for the team, and the Super Junior name is precious to all of us.” Smiling, Kyuhyun said, “It’s possible that the members could’ve signed with different agencies after receiving good offers, but from what I know, everyone has made small compromises.”
