BTS Talks About Presenting At The Grammys, Preparing For Comeback, And More For 2019 BTS Festa

BTS shared their thoughts in a fun interview for “Bangtan News”!

“Bangtan News” is one of the many events the boy group has planned in their line-up for this year’s Festa, an annual celebration leading up to BTS’s debut anniversary on June 13. The make-believe newspaper started with the members’ thoughts on attending the 2019 Grammy Awards.

V began, “Uh… first, I went with a lot of expectations because it was an awards show that we had always dreamed about. But I felt that it was a wider, bigger stage than my expectations, and I thought that if we were to ever perform here, I would like to become someone who can really perform well and perform here.”

RM said, “Yes! Ah… the Grammys! When I think about that, the first thing I remember is… It was fascinating how I was sitting there after watering my plants at home. That’s what I first think about. It was really cool how I was watching the Grammys in the first row and what I was doing suddenly. I also thought a lot about how we still had a long way to go, and thought a lot about what we’d look like if we were to stand here. I remember practicing the short presentation thousands of times and going up on stage. It was a really fun experience.”

“It was really fun,” stated Suga. “It was a fun, new experience… I had only dreamt about the Grammys, but we got to go in real life. We also got to present an award. Next time, I want to go as award recipients.”

Jungkook said, “First, I heard that it was the most difficult award show to go to out of all of the award shows, and I thought about how grateful I was towards our fans for just being able to go. I was so happy watching the singers’ stages at the award shows and got a lot of motivation.”

“I think I gained a lot more ambition,” commented Jimin. “I thought about how we came all the way here and that this probably isn’t the end. It was a moment where I really felt that there were more things we could do in the future and where I became curious about how high we could go. How do I put this into words? It was like… something I can’t explain… feeling really… heated? I gained something like ambition… and that kind of mindset that can’t be expressed in words.”

J-Hope added, “The Grammys was a place that was like a dream, so I didn’t really feel anything when I just arrived. There was a question mark as to whether this was really the Grammys that I had imagined. But the performance began and the moment I saw the stage, I think the question mark changed into an exclamation point. Wow, I really came to the Grammys. I really felt the most when presenting the award. This is definitely the Grammys. I came to the Grammys.”

“The Grammys… it was an interesting place,” said Jin. “It was as if I had gone inside a fairytale? It was really cool. I hope a day will come when we also become the stars of that stage.”

As for preparations for their big day, Jungkook said that he tried not to mess up since it was an honor that fans created for them. V revealed he went on a diet to lose weight and tried to practice English to help RM during red carpet interviews. RM tried his best not to be nervous and prepared to present the award. Jimin and J-Hope mentioned their mindsets while Suga said he watched previous Grammy awards. Jin stated that he prepared RM and praised his great job at presenting the award.

On April 12, BTS released their latest album “Map of the Soul: Persona.” The members described what they paid the most attention to while preparing for this album. Jin said, “This time, we put a lot of emphasis on the sitting part of ‘Dionysus.’ It was really hard to memorize that part. We have to match the timing with the dancers and had to think of all of the things we have to do while sitting there, so it was hard.”

“My mind?” replied V. “It’s just… a joyful song and since it’s a song we made for ARMYs, I thought that I should do it really happily. I thought about how it was a performance being directly felt by ARMYs, so I wanted to make my mind more positive and happier.”

RM answered, “I was a lyric writing robot while preparing for this album. I helped put together the pieces of the puzzle by putting a lot of work into the lyrics, which was my essential role.”

“The part that I paid the most attention to while preparing for this album was a slight increase in quality,” said Suga. “I think we tried many new things. It was really enjoyable writing rap and songs.” Jungkook said, “I thought that my growth over time needed to be visible, so I personally worked hard to show a more developed appearance in various ways for every comeback.”

Jimin added, “As for me, I paid a lot of attention to working on songs while singing. Instead of just singing, I thought a lot about how it’d be nice for my emotions to be felt by the person listening. So I worked on the song while thinking about how I could sing in a more touching way.”

“This time, I tried to convey the emotions that only J-Hope feels,” said J-Hope. “Since there were many things we were saying to our fans, I tried to be more involved while writing. I also tried to show BTS’s charms and our colors, so I worked hard on that as well.”

As for the songs that were the most difficult or took the longest time to record, RM chose his solo track “Intro: Persona.” V, Jungkook, Jimin, and Jin chose their title track “Boy with Luv” while Suga and J-Hope picked “Dionysus.”

Each member then got their own section to talk about some of their recent interests. RM introduced his bonsai plants, which fans got a peek of during a V Live tour of his studio. Jin revealed the secret behind his worldwide handsome looks, and compared himself to a flower. Suga shared his thoughts on becoming a “quote maker” and shared the quote of the day: “I want to lie down.”

J-Hope revealed the secret behind being the “ending fairy” during the “Dionysus” performances. Jimin talked about the success of BTS’s songs that start with his part, and made an acrostic poem with his name. V shared his love for jewelry, especially bracelets, and his efforts behind various facial expressions on stage. Jungkook talked about the secret behind his impressive jumps in the “Boy With Luv” MV.

“Bangtan News” concluded with a relay of messages they wanted to say to their beloved fans.
