Shin Se Kyung Shines As A Female Pioneer In New Historical Drama
Viewers got their first look into Shin Se Kyung’s character in the upcoming MBC drama “Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung” (literal title).
“Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung” is a fictional historical drama about Joseon Dynasty’s first “problematic” woman Goo Hae Ryung and her love story with Prince Lee Rim (played by ASTRO’s Cha Eun Woo), who has been single since birth and has a surprising side to him. Other actors include Lee Ji Hoon, Park Ji Hyun, Kim Yeo Jin, Kim Min Sang, Choi Duk Moon, and Sung Ji Roo.
Goo Hae Ryung is someone who always asks herself “why?” and has studied abroad while spending her childhood in the Qing Dynasty, which is a rarity in the Joseon Dynasty. The Qing Dynasty, which enjoys an affluent culture, was always full of new things that fascinated her. With a thirst for her homeland, which is dotted with lofty Neo-Confucian ideals, she returns, takes the national exam, and rightfully enters the palace.
The stills chronicle the process Goo Hae Ryung goes through in order to enter the palace. The first photo shows her defending a dejected boy in front of burly men and shows her grit as she sticks up for people in need. She’s also seen holding a brush while wearing a beautiful hanbok, and begins to pen a response at the marketplace. The final photo shows her walking around the palace dressed in a blue officer uniform while clutching books.
A source from the drama said, “[Goo] Hae Ryung is a woman who will change Joseon. She has the personality of someone who doesn’t ignore those in need and the passionate heart of a woman who wants to shape her own destiny. Goo Hae Ryung’s story will slowly be revealed before the first episode, so please give lots of interest and love for ‘Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung.'”
“Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung” will premiere in July at 9 p.m. KST on MBC.
