Mnet has denied reports that “Unpretty Rapstar” will never be coming back on air.

“Unpretty Rapstar” is an Mnet survival show for female rappers which began in 2015. After the considerable popularity of its first season, it launched its second season only sixth months later in September of 2015. The third season then began soon after in July of 2016. The show has showcased rappers including Jessi, Cheetah, Heize, AOA’s Jimin, (G)I-DLE’s Jeon Soyeon, Yubin, KHAN’s Euna Kim, Yezi, Tymee, Lil Cham, Kisum, Yuk Jidam, KittiB, Truedy, Giant Pink, Nada, Grace, and more, and it’s been a career boost for many.

However, the show hasn’t returned since the end of the third season in 2016.

On June 13, it was reported by news outlet OSEN that “Unpretty Rapstar” has effectively been canceled. The outlet reported that the show once again does not appear on the network’s planned lineup for the second half of the year.

OSEN quoted an unidentified source that stated, “‘Unpretty Rapstar’ has effectively been discontinued. It’s also difficult to find highly skilled female rappers in the underground scene.”

The outlet stated that in addition to the issue with finding female rappers, the public’s interest in the program is also low, leading to its lower priority in the network’s scheduling.

OSEN reports that Mnet stated that while it’s true the show is not in the lineup for this year either, it could air again in the future.

Later that day, a source from “Unpretty Rapstar” also spoke to the outlet STOO. They stated, “It’s only that there are currently no broadcast plans; it hasn’t been discontinued.” They added, “It can be done again at any time.”
