PD Na Young Suk Addresses Restaurant Copying Menu From "Kang's Kitchen 2"
PD Na Young Suk of “Kang’s Kitchen 2” has spoken out about a restaurant operating with the exact same menu names and recipes as the show.
On July 9, photos of a restaurant’s menu were shared on an online community site, and the restaurant had the same witty menu options as seen on tvN’s “Kang’s Kitchen 2.”
Those who saw the post commented and asked, “Can’t Baek Jong Won or tvN take legal action for this?”
Herald Biz explains that since recipes are not protected by copyrights, following someone else’s recipe is not legally problematic. It is also difficult for the tvN crew to take legal action regarding the menu names because they were not trademarked.
PD Na Young Suk, who produced both “Kang’s Kitchen 2” and “Kang’s Kitchen 3” spoke up about the issue, saying, “The menu was made from our ideas and Baek Jong Won’s consulting. We always welcome our viewers to try the recipes at home. That is why we share recipes through the broadcasts. However, it is unsettling for a restaurant to copy our hard work without permission.”
He continued, “I don’t want the restaurant that copied our menu to gain attention and make more sales. I don’t believe there will be much sincerity or an excellent taste with food that is supposed to create short-lived hype. I think that if the viewers think about it, they will know that they do not have to go out and buy that food. As this is a difficult time for everyone, I don’t want to take action.”
