Watch: EXO's Baekhyun Talks About Sending D.O. Off To Military + Recreates Audition Performance

EXO’s Baekhyun shared fun stories on the latest episode of KBS 2TV’s “Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook”!

On the July 12 episode, Baekhyun appeared on the show to promote his new solo mini album “City Lights.”

Baekhyun opened the stage with a solo version of “Dream,” his duet song with Suzy. He then shared, “I’ve been really nervous since last night. It’s my first time doing a one-on-one talk show, so my stomach hurts a lot because I’m nervous.”

As for his fellow EXO members’ advice, he revealed, “Chen released his own solo album not too long ago. Chen said that he also would’ve been nervous if he came on the show, and he told me to do a good job and not get nervous.”

D.O. recently became the second EXO member to enlist in the military, and Baekhyun talked about seeing him off with the other EXO members. He recalled, “[D.O.] told us, ‘Okay, get going,’ as if it were nothing. He acted like it was his home. So we said, ‘Okay, take care of yourself and come back safe,’ and he said he’ll see us soon.”

Baekhyun then shared the story of when he first began dreaming of becoming a singer. “This is the first time I’m revealing this,” began the EXO member. “In sixth grade, I went to karaoke for the first time with my friends. Back then, I thought that everyone was able to sing vibrato. At that time, I was young, and I had never sung with my friends before. But my friends said that I was really good. That’s when I first became interested in singing, and I thought that I should start to pursue it seriously.”

He also revealed that he had joined a band in high school called Comatose State (literal translation). “Back when I auditioned, there were five people auditioning,” said Baekhyun. “I beat the competition against odds of five-to-one and got in.”

When asked what song he had chosen for his audition, Baekhyun revealed that he had sung The Ray’s “Cleaning.” He went on, “I don’t think I’ve sung that song much recently. I always sing it when I go to karaoke with my friends or fellow [EXO] members, but I haven’t had much time to go to karaoke these days.”

Yoo Hee Yeol asked Baekhyun to imagine that he was at his audition for Comatose State, and Baekhyun performed The Ray’s “Cleaning” to a live piano accompaniment.

Finally, Baekhyun concluded the interview by sharing his dream. “I want to return the love I’ve received until now by giving happiness to others,” said the singer.
