Kim Da Mi Confirmed To Star As Lead In Korean Remake Of Chinese Movie

Actress Kim Da Mi has been confirmed to play the lead in a Korean remake of the 2016 Chinese film “SoulMate.”

On July 24, Lezhin Studio shared, “The production of the remake was confirmed after it was decided that Kim Da Mi, [the actress who played] the protagonist in ‘The Witch,’ will star in ‘SoulMate’ (working title).”

The original film brings back the essence of a relationship throughout their 14 years of encounter and separation, friendship and love, as well as respect and jealousy of two friends who first met at the age of 13. The movie became a hot topic because it was produced by Peter Chan of “Comrades: Almost a Love Story,” and for the first time, the leading actress became a corecipient of the Best Actress Award at the Golden Horse Awards, a popular film festival that represents China.

Kim Da Mi impressed the audience with her strong acting in “The Witch” and gained herself the title of a “monster rookie.” She was up against 1,000 other candidates for the protagonist role in “The Witch.”

She won major awards domestically and abroad, including the Blue Dragon Film Award’s Best New Actress Award, Fantasia International Film Festival’s Best Actress Award, and London Asian Film Festival’s Rising Star Award for her superb acting skills.

Kim Da Mi was also recently cast to star opposite Park Seo Joon in a drama adaption of a popular webtoon titled “Itaewon Class” (literal title).

“SoulMate” will be produced by director Min Yong Geun, and it will be be released in the first half of 2020.
